We adopted freeway from GRRACE in 1999. He was most definitely the most sweet and loving dog we could ever have asked for. He was a blessing to all those who met him and I don't know a person he came into contact with us that didn't fall immediately in love with him. Every day he would be there waiting for us to come home just to come up and say hello. He truly was a part of our family.
On Wednesday, August 19, 2009 we had to put Freeway down, a heartbreaking decision. But he had gotten tumors all over his body, and his arthritis was making the simple tasks in his life so difficult that we could not stand by and watch him continue in so much pain. We spent about 2 hours in that office with him, he seemed to actually know what was happening and walked around that room and seemed to say goodbye to all of us. He is no longer in that horrific pain, and for that I am glad; however, we miss him terribly. He helped to make our house a home and we will always love and remember him for it. I want to thank you all at GRRACE for what you do, for people to find amazing dogs like Freeway who were thrown out by others and placed them in homes were they can be loved and love back. I hope to one day adopt again, knowing full well I could never replace freeway, but only hope to add many years of love to a golden who deserves a second chance just like Freeway did.
